AI Like a Girl (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates an in-person AI literacy lab for girls in Austin, TX. This policy outlines how we handle data with intention, transparency, and respect for your family’s digital footprint.

1. What We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to provide a high-utility, personalized experience:

Parent/Guardian Information: Name and email address.

Participant Information: First name, age, interests, and current AI experience level.

Lab Preferences: Cohort selection, scheduling, and optional survey responses.

Payment Data: All financial transactions are processed via Stripe. We do not store or have access to credit card numbers or full payment details on our systems.

2. Intentional Use of Data

We use the information collected for three specific purposes:

• To place your daughter in the right cohort and tailor the curriculum to her interests.
• To communicate lab logistics, safety updates, and session recaps.
• To securely process registration fees.

We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Ever.

3. Third-Party Infrastructure

To run a modern lab, we utilize industry-standard services:

Google Workspace: For organizing registration and survey data.

Stripe: For secure payment encryption.

Vercel: For hosting this website (no personal data is stored on Vercel).

Each service maintains its own privacy standards, and we choose partners who prioritize data security.

4. Children’s Privacy & Data Stewardship

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we take the following measures:

Parent-Only Entry: All registration and interest forms must be completed by a parent or guardian. We do not allow children to submit data directly.

Minimum Footprint: We collect only the minimum identifiers (first name and age) needed to manage the lab.

Real-World Context: During the lab, we teach the girls how to use data as a building material. Any personal context used to fuel a “personalized agent” project is handled with guidance on privacy and intentional sharing.

Media Consent: Photos, videos, or project showcases are shared only with explicit parental consent obtained via a separate media release.

5. Data Retention & Security

We retain data for the duration of the camp season and a reasonable follow-up period. We use industry-standard security, including HTTPS encryption and access-controlled accounts. While no system is impenetrable, we apply the same rigor to our data as we do to our curriculum.

6. Your Rights

As the steward of your data, you have the right to:

• Request a copy of the information we have on file.
• Request immediate correction or deletion of your data.
• Withdraw from our communications at any time.
